As a well-versed commercial interior designer, I am considering more than ever before, how to prioritise sustainability and comfort, to ensure all commercial spaces are used efficiently. Business owners now want their interior business space to reflect their values and that of their employees.
Popular commercial interior design trends for 2022 are born out of our reaction to covid19, and companies now more than ever are thinking about how to create stylish interior spaces, whilst also paying attention to the changing nature of places where we gather.
The top 5 trends for 2022
Sustainable design
Trends towards sustainability are on the up, so do pay attention to this one. Natural materials and things that have less impact on the environment, like reclaimed furniture and décor. Sustainable interior design is being embraced by all industries, from industrial style office interior spaces to relaxing natural restaurant environments. I personally love working with natural reclaimed materials whenever the opportunity presents itself.
Organic curves
After what feels like a very long time, we are seeing a renewed interest in rounded shapes and curves, soft profiles are very appealing in both interior design and landscape design. As a commercial interior designer, for me curves emulate calm, simple organic forms that help people feel like they are reconnecting with nature.
Resimercial design
Resimercial design is all about office interiors, for people who have been forced to work from home over the past couple of years. This trend combines commercial spaces with the home comforts of residential interior spaces, to create a productive and comfortable environment. I am currently working on a resimercial design project, for clients who recently moved to Brighton and are looking for that all important working space at home.
Considered minimalism
As our lives become more hectic, filled with mobile accessibility and social media, a sense of planned simplicity is longed for and appreciated. In commercial interior design, this can be achieved through carefully considered design and minimalism. To focus on a few carefully planned interior design features will make a statement, that is far more appealing than creating and over cluttered look that tries to encompass all the latest trends. Important elements that reflect a commercial interior design style, minimalist aesthetics are timeless and provide a sense of character and luxury.
Colour blocking
Blocks of colour, or a swathe of one colour tone can be incorporated into commercial interior design and landscape design, anywhere that needs a new injection of life and vibrancy. For office interiors natural tones create a calming environment, while roadside businesses like restaurants and cafés benefit from pops of vibrant colour to catch the eye of passing trade. Colour blocking done well, creates a great commercial interior design statement, a diverse trend that can be used in numerous ways to create impact.
