When I first started to brainstorm the main objectives with the client and management team, the key requirements in the brief were; intimate dining areas, good lighting, comfortable seating, a current fresh interior design scheme and a comfortable and relaxed ambience. As with many Commercial Interior Design projects, they also asked for the obvious, something “wow” and different that wouldn’t date.
I wanted to clearly present my design concepts, as it’s a big space, so I set about visually splitting the restaurant and bar area into sections. By doing this, it allowed me to break down my ideas in manageable chunks for the client, a mixture of design drawings and photographic reference. All design elements were detailed, first as 2d technical drawings and then as 3d images, so they were able to walk around the space and understand what the proposed changes were. There is a main bar area, a bar seating area and a dining area and I wanted to ensure that each area had its own look and feel, which flowed seamlessly into the next.
I prepared a detailed set of design drawings, to enable the builder on site to successfully carry out the work, with pictural reference to scale and colour coded. Within the scope I redesigned the lighting scheme, prepared new floor plans indicating the location of furniture and I also designed all the bespoke joinery. The joinery included privacy screens to section off dining areas, round banquet seating and smaller banquet seating for families dining out. The bespoke cabinetry drawing detail had quite a journey, designed in England, sent to a factory in mainland Spain to be manufactured, then shipped to Tenerife to be enjoyed!
I chose photography of local landscapes printed in monochrome as wallpaper, combining it with herringbone tiled and timber panelled walls. The herringbone tiled walls in three colours work really well and some of the other walls were timber panelled, creating visual interest. A variety of modern hanging pendant lights create a lovely dining ambience in the evening and has proven been very popular with hotel guests using the restaurant.
To pull all elements together, I used a colour palette of blues and greys which always remind me of that incredible view…
This project is now completed and I’m hoping to head back to Tenerife soon. Read more about the development of this project here. If you have any commercial interior design projects in Tenerife, please get in touch!
