Though this blog explores the difference between residential and commercial interior design I should say upfront that the design principles are the same. Design after all, is design. At Pisani Designs we work on both types so feel we are well versed to explain the differences.
Unique touches
Though we do our share of residential work, the majority of our work is commercial interiors, a more specialised field which often requires more design savvy in as far as the latest trends and design detail. Any commercial investor has to be ahead of their game, if developing a new hotel or restaurant for example, they need a design which is going to get them noticed and talked about, high quality and thorough designs with unique touches are essential.
Return on investment
A commercial project also needs to show a good return on investment (ROI). This can be extremely challenging when you still want to create a wow factor. But a good designer will always find a way forward, both for their client in delivering a design which delivers ROI but also one that can still stand proud in their portfolio.
Mix it all together
We were recently asked to present design ideas for a state of the art hotel resort. The brief, from a high profile commercial investor had all the ingredients that make the perfect mix. A short time line to develop the concepts and finished product and a very carefully considered budget. As the purchase of this hotel has been a considerable investment there are grand aspirations for the finished product, a destination resort offering all the latest gadgetry and design flair to make it a memorable and unique holiday destination. So..commercial design is a lot of planning, finding a way, how ever hard it may seem, being cost conscious but also having the ability to create something unique and special, something people will take home and remember and hopefully talk about for years to come. Not for every designer, but certainly my cup of tea….
